12 BOLT OVERHAUL

Our good friend Wes dropped down his GM 12 bolt diff wanting us to re-assemble with all new parts. Wes is currently undertaking a full ground up rebuild of his C10, with the chassis all done he needed someone to finish up the diff so it can be a roller again. We were stocked up with a new 3.73 Richmond gearset, Detroit Trutrac LSD centre, Moser axles, Moser aluminium hat, Strange billet yoke and all new bearings, shims and seals.

First thing we did was blow all the bearings and seals out of it, cut the old trailing arm saddles off, on with our new TCF saddles, then mock up the new disc brake setup to make sure the axle offset was correct, all the brackets fitted correctly and at the same time welded on the brake line tabs. Finally a big degrease and powerwash then off to the powdercoaters for a fresh coat of satin black.

With it back from powdercoating, we got straight onto it, mounting it to our bench bracket for re-assembly. Setting the correct pinion depth via shims, then installing new pinion bearings and crush sleeve and installing the new Strange billet 1350 yoke and setting the correct pre-load.

Bolting on the new crown wheel to the Trutrac, then spending a bit of time shimming the centre to get the correct backlash which was specified as 0.007-0.009thou, we got it spot on 7 thou.

With a perfect gear pattern, caps were torqued, the new Moser 30 spline C-clip axles were installed, the spacer and plug installed in the trutrac, finishing it up with the new cast aluminium Moser hat.

Disc brakes went back on, finishing it off with polished stainless brake hardline.

If your needing your GM diff rebuilt, come see us or give us a call!

And the final result, we spent 5 months deep in this truck, especially in the engine bay and interior creating the owners ultimate dream truck. Basically every box ticked, 500hp injected cammed LS3, 6L90E 6 speed auto, with sports mode on the column, ice cold A/C, Wilwood brakes, bi-modal exhaust and the list goes on.. the difficult part was to make it look factory, while adding our own custom one-off style.. All in-house!
